During a retreat we reduce our normal worldly activities and concentrate for a period of time on developing spiritual qualities and peaceful minds. Retreat offers us the opportunity to take a break from the busyness of everyday city life. Everyone is welcome to come to any or all of the sessions. Sessions are free and unguided.

Sunday 24 September from 9am

If we wish to experience happiness and good fortune in our lives we need to accumulate merit. Merit, or positive energy, comes from positive actions and enables us to fulfil all our wishes including our spiritual wishes to improve our mind and attain enlightenment.

The practice of offering mandalas is one of the best ways to accumulate this merit and has been used by Buddhists for generations to overcome poverty, improve their concentration and remove their delusions. Through the practice of offering mandalas our mind will gradually become more calm and peaceful and we will make swift, easy progress along the spiritual path.

When offering a mandala we imagine we hold a pure universe in our hands which we offer to all the Buddhas. We imagine the entire universe is filled with countless precious objects and pure worlds and we make a compassionate prayer that all beings may enjoy such pure lands.

A retreat is a time when we reduce our daily activities and focus on finding happiness from within. It is a special opportunity to familiarise ourself with a particular spiritual practice.

Each session lasts for one and a half hours and consists of chanted prayers sung in English and a period of silence for offering mandalas. You are welcome to drop in for any or all of the retreat sessions and there is no charge.
